A Buyer’s Guide to Sourcing in China Around the Canton Fair: Understanding China’s PVC Roll Flooring Industry — With a Focus on Homogeneous Vinyl Flooring, Heterogeneous Flooring, and Sport Flooring

Oct 15, 2025

For international buyers visiting China before or after the Canton Fair, “China PVC flooring” does not describe one product or one uniform industry.

Search results may include SPC flooring, LVT, vinyl tiles, homogeneous vinyl sheet, heterogeneous commercial vinyl flooring, ESD flooring and PVC sports flooring. These products differ in structure, manufacturing process, application and supplier capability.

This guide focuses on three project-oriented sheet flooring categories:

- Homogeneous PVC sheet flooring;

- Commercial heterogeneous PVC sheet flooring;

- PVC sports flooring in rolls.

These products are widely considered for hospitals, schools, laboratories, offices, commercial buildings and sports venues. Buyers should compare more than thickness, colour and price. Product standards, test reports, subfloor conditions, installation accessories and project-delivery support can all affect the final result.

Quick answer

International buyers sourcing PVC sheet flooring from China should understand four points:

1. Resilient flooring is broader than PVC flooring, and PVC sheet is different from SPC and LVT.

2. Homogeneous, heterogeneous commercial and sports flooring have different structures and should not be compared by total thickness alone.

3. Chinese PVC flooring manufacturers are concentrated mainly in East and South China, but their product specialisations vary.

4. Healthcare, sports and high-specification projects often require a project-focused provider that can coordinate products, documents, accessories and installation support.

1. Is Resilient Flooring the Same as PVC Flooring?

Resilient flooring is a broader category that can include vinyl, linoleum, rubber and cork flooring. PVC or vinyl flooring is one important part of this category. The ASTM resilient flooring standards cover products including linoleum, vinyl composition tile, sheet vinyl, rubber and cork.

Several distinctions are important:

Linoleum is not PVC flooring.

PVC sheet flooring is not the same as SPC click flooring.

Homogeneous and heterogeneous PVC sheets have different structures.

PVC sports flooring is not simply thicker commercial flooring.

ESD flooring requires a complete conductive or static-control system.

  • For hospitals, schools, laboratories and sports venues, buyers are selecting a flooring system rather than an isolated roll of material.

2. From Linoleum to Modern PVC Sheet Flooring

The history of modern resilient flooring can be traced to the nineteenth century.

Frederick Walton patented the manufacturing process for linoleum in 1863. Linoleum was made using oxidised linseed oil, wood or cork flour, pigments and a jute backing, and became an important starting point in the development of resilient flooring. Forbo’s history of linoleum

PVC had already been produced in the nineteenth century, but the early material was too rigid for many practical applications. Developments in plasticisation during the 1920s and 1930s made flexible PVC possible, supporting its later use in cables, films, building products and flooring. American Chemical Society background on PVC

PVC flooring subsequently developed through several stages:

  1. Basic sheet and tile products;
  2. Commercial use in healthcare, education and public buildings;
  3. Product specialisation into homogeneous, heterogeneous, sports and ESD flooring;
  4. Growth of modular products such as LVT, WPC and SPC;
  5. Greater emphasis on low emissions, compliance documentation, system delivery and lifecycle performance.

Linoleum, PVC sheet, LVT and SPC may appear in the same broad flooring market, but their materials, structures and installation methods are different.

3. How Did China’s PVC Sheet Flooring Industry Develop?

There is no single, widely accepted date marking the beginning of China’s PVC flooring industry. National standards provide more verifiable milestones.

China issued a national standard for backed PVC sheet flooring in 1989. The standard was revised in 2005. In 2015, China established separate standards for heterogeneous and homogeneous PVC floor coverings:

This progression shows how the Chinese industry moved from a general backed-sheet category towards clearer homogeneous and heterogeneous product systems.

According to industry information disclosed in Aili Home’s 2025 annual report, Chinese PVC resilient flooring manufacturers are concentrated mainly in East and South China. Domestic residential adoption remains relatively limited, while resilient flooring has gained more established use in hospitals, schools, offices, hotels, shopping centres and other commercial or public buildings. Aili Home 2025 Annual Report

The Chinese market contains two broad supplier groups:

  • Large export-oriented manufacturers focused on LVT, SPC and OEM/ODM production;
  • Project-oriented sheet flooring suppliers serving healthcare, education, sports, industrial and high-specification commercial environments.

Buyers of homogeneous, commercial heterogeneous or PVC sports flooring should pay particular attention to the second group’s technical and project-support capabilities.

4. Three Core Types of PVC Sheet Flooring

4.1 Homogeneous PVC Sheet Flooring

The standard term for this category is homogeneous polyvinyl chloride floor covering. ISO 10581 specifies homogeneous PVC floor coverings supplied in sheet or tile form.

“Homogeneous” refers to the continuity of the material composition through the main body of the product. The pattern and material are commonly described as extending through the thickness.

Does homogeneous flooring have a wear layer?

The body of homogeneous PVC flooring does not normally contain a separate printed design layer or the conventional transparent wear layer used to protect the print film of heterogeneous flooring.

Instead, the homogeneous body itself provides the principal usable wear thickness. Some international manufacturers therefore report the effective wear-layer thickness as equal to the total product thickness. A 2.0 mm homogeneous product may, for example, be listed with both a 2.0 mm total thickness and a 2.0 mm effective wear thickness.

However, this does not mean that modern homogeneous flooring is supplied with an untreated surface.

To meet the requirements of hospitals, laboratories, schools and other high-traffic environments, FARFLY and many other manufacturers apply factory-produced PUR or UV surface reinforcement to the homogeneous body. This treatment can form a protective surface film of controlled thickness.

Its functions may include:

  • Improved stain resistance;
  • Better resistance to cleaning agents, disinfectants and selected chemicals;
  • Reduced scuffing and everyday scratching;
  • Lower risk of contamination adhering to or penetrating the surface;
  • Easier routine cleaning;
  • Reduced need for frequent waxing or recoating;
  • More stable appearance under intensive use.

Tarkett, for example, identifies PUR as a separate surface treatment while listing the usable wear thickness of its homogeneous body as equal to the total thickness. Gerflor’s homogeneous products use Evercare surface treatment to improve cleaning, stain resistance and scratch performance. Tarkett iQ technical information and Gerflor Mipolam product information

FARFLY features an enhanced homogeneous vinyl body and UV-reinforced treatment. It has passed a comprehensive range of tests, demonstrating credible performance data such as wear resistance rating, stain resistance, and caster chair test results.FARFLY Hospital Floor.

Typical applications

  • Hospital wards, corridors and nurse stations;
  • Clinics, rehabilitation centres and elderly-care facilities;
  • Schools and training facilities;
  • Laboratories and selected pharmaceutical areas;
  • High-traffic public buildings;
  • Continuous floors requiring heat-welded joints.

What should buyers compare?

Buyers should evaluate:

  • Density and formulation of the homogeneous body;
  • Total and effective usable thickness;
  • Abrasion classification;
  • Residual indentation;
  • Dimensional stability;
  • Stain and chemical resistance;
  • Surface-treatment system;
  • Slip and fire performance;
  • Batch and colour consistency;
  • Welding performance;
  • Cleaning and maintenance requirements;
  • Compatibility with adhesives, welding rods and substrate-preparation materials.

The label “hospital flooring” is not sufficient evidence of suitability. Test reports should correspond to the proposed product, and different areas—such as wards, laboratories and operating rooms—may require different systems.

4.2 Commercial Heterogeneous PVC Sheet Flooring

Commercial composite PVC sheet is generally classified as heterogeneous PVC flooring.

ISO 10582 describes heterogeneous floor coverings as products containing a wear layer and other layers that differ in composition or design. The structure may also include reinforcement.

A typical commercial heterogeneous sheet may include:

  • Factory surface treatment;
  • Transparent wear layer;
  • Printed design layer;
  • Stabilising or reinforcement layer;
  • Compact or foam layer;
  • Backing.

The exact construction varies by product range and application.

Typical applications

  • Schools and training centres;
  • Offices;
  • Retail and commercial interiors;
  • Hotels, restaurants and public areas;
  • General areas in healthcare facilities;
  • Fitness, activity and multifunction rooms.

What should buyers compare?

  • Total thickness;
  • Transparent wear-layer thickness;
  • Surface treatment;
  • Compact or foam construction;
  • Glass-fibre or other reinforcement;
  • Residual indentation;
  • Dimensional stability;
  • Castor-chair suitability;
  • Slip and fire performance;
  • Acoustic data;
  • Adhesive and subfloor requirements.

A thicker product is not automatically more durable. Durability also depends on the transparent wear layer, surface finish, dimensional stability, installation quality and conditions of use.

4.3 PVC Sports Flooring in Rolls

PVC sports flooring normally uses a multilayer construction.

China’s JC/T 2337-2015 industry standard covers fibre-reinforced resilient PVC sports flooring manufactured by coating or laminating PVC-based materials onto a continuous substrate. National Standard Information Public Service Platform record

Typical applications

  • Badminton halls;
  • Table-tennis venues;
  • Basketball training courts;
  • Volleyball courts;
  • Multipurpose sports halls;
  • School activity rooms;
  • Fitness and training facilities.

How is sports flooring different from commercial flooring?

PVC sports flooring must support athletic performance and user protection as well as withstand traffic.

Important evaluation criteria include:

  • Shock absorption;
  • Vertical deformation;
  • Surface friction and slip behaviour;
  • Ball rebound;
  • Surface texture;
  • Fibre reinforcement;
  • Foam construction and density;
  • Dimensional stability;
  • Joint treatment;
  • Portable or permanent installation;
  • Subfloor flatness;
  • Sport-specific testing or certification.

Total thickness—whether 4.5 mm, 6 mm or 8 mm—is only one parameter. A sports floor should be selected according to the sport, intensity of use, installation method, subfloor and required performance.

5. Product Comparison

Criterion Homogeneous PVC Sheet Commercial Heterogeneous Sheet PVC Sports Flooring
Main applications Healthcare, education, public buildings Commercial, offices, education, hospitality Sports halls, schools, training venues
Main structure Homogeneous body with surface treatment Multilayer structure Reinforced multilayer cushioned structure
Key criteria Abrasion, indentation, chemicals, maintenance Wear layer, design, acoustics, stability Shock absorption, friction, ball rebound

Common risks Moisture, adhesive, welding and batch variation Indentation, stability and insufficient wear layer Uneven substrate, joints and unsuitable friction
Main accessories Adhesive, welding rods, levelling compound Adhesive, welding rods, levelling compound Adhesive, welding rods, joining materials and tools

A hospital or educational project containing wards, corridors, operating rooms, offices and activity areas should not automatically use one product throughout. Products should be selected by functional zone.

6. Where Is PVC Flooring Manufactured in China?

Chinese PVC flooring manufacturers are concentrated mainly in East and South China, but the regions do not all specialise in the same products.

Henglin in Changzhou, Jiangsu, has a broad flooring supply chain covering laminate, stone-plastic or wood-plastic flooring, raised floors and related supporting industries. It is an important manufacturing and export cluster, but its strengths should not automatically be equated with commercial PVC sheet flooring. Changzhou Economic Development Zone information

For homogeneous and heterogeneous commercial sheet flooring, the Shanghai–Jiangsu–Zhejiang region includes manufacturers, testing organisations, accessory suppliers and major project markets. The drafting organisations listed for GB/T 11982.1-2015 include Shanghai research and testing institutes, Dajulong, Jiangyin-based manufacturers and several international resilient-flooring companies operating in China.

Shijiazhuang in Hebei has developed notable specialist capabilities in sports surfaces. Companies such as Enlio have participated in international basketball, table-tennis and badminton projects, with certain partnerships independently verifiable through FIBA. FIBA supplier information

Buyers should therefore distinguish between:

  • Large SPC, LVT and click-flooring exporters;
  • Commercial and healthcare sheet-flooring suppliers;
  • Specialist sports-surface companies;
  • Project-focused providers offering documentation, accessories and installation support.

8. How Should Buyers Evaluate a PVC Sheet Flooring Supplier?

Does the test report match the proposed product?

Check:

  • Product name and model;
  • Tested thickness;
  • Test date;
  • Testing laboratory;
  • Test standard;
  • Results;
  • Relationship between the report and the proposed product.

Terms such as “hospital grade”, “sports grade”, “B1” or “antibacterial” should not replace product-specific evidence.

Does the supplier understand the application?

A capable supplier should ask about:

  • Country and project location;
  • Functional areas;
  • Project size;
  • Subfloor type and flatness;
  • New construction or renovation;
  • Applicable standards;
  • Installation method;
  • Construction and delivery schedule;
  • Required adhesives, welding rods and tools.

Can the supplier coordinate compatible accessories?

The final performance of PVC sheet flooring depends on the subfloor, levelling compound, primer, adhesive, welding rods and installation process. Renovations, epoxy substrates, non-absorbent surfaces and large sports venues require particular attention.

Can the supplier support installation?

Buyers may request:

  • Subfloor requirements;
  • Adhesive instructions;
  • Layout direction;
  • Open-time and working-time information;
  • Grooving and heat-welding guidance;
  • Sports-floor joint instructions;
  • Installation videos or on-site support;
  • Small-area bond-test recommendations.

9. The Future: From Flooring Material to Project System

Competition in China’s PVC sheet flooring industry is moving beyond price, thickness, colour and production capacity.

Stronger control of VOCs and restricted substances

China has issued GB 18586-2026, covering harmful-substance limits for carpets, underlays and PVC flooring, with implementation scheduled for 1 October 2027. National Standard Information Public Service Platform

EU REACH restrictions cover phthalates including DEHP, DBP, DIBP and BBP, with flooring explicitly included among affected product groups. European Chemicals Agency

Export suppliers will need stronger material control, VOC documentation, restricted-substance declarations and product traceability.

Documentation is becoming part of delivery

The EU’s updated Construction Products Regulation strengthens requirements related to environmental performance, product information, lifecycle data and digital product passports. EU Regulation 2024/3110

Future project files may include:

  • Technical data sheets;
  • Safety data sheets;
  • VOC information;
  • Restricted-substance declarations;
  • Installation and maintenance documents;
  • Batch traceability;
  • Environmental information;
  • Clause-by-clause compliance documents.

Flooring, accessories and installation form one system

Subfloor condition → Primer and levelling →  Adhesive → PVC sheet → Welding rods and joints → Installation → Cleaning and maintenance

A compliant floor covering can still fail if the adhesive is unsuitable, the substrate contains excessive moisture or a non-absorbent surface is not properly prepared.

FARFLY is already working in this direction

For a 12,600 m² hospital project in Samarkand, FARFLY developed a package combining homogeneous flooring for general hospital areas and ESD flooring for operating rooms, together with accessories, documentation and installation planning.

For Northside Badminton Centre in Australia, the supply scope included 6 mm PVC sports flooring, adhesive, welding rods, installation tools, badminton nets and practice material for the local installers.

For a 1,500 m² pharmaceutical laboratory project in Bolivia, FARFLY reviewed existing coatings, epoxy substrates, adhesive information and material compatibility before installation.

The common objective is to move potential problems from the construction site into the earlier product-selection, sampling and technical-review stages.

10. Planning a PVC Flooring Sourcing Visit Around the Canton Fair

Buyers sourcing homogeneous vinyl, commercial heterogeneous PVC sheet or PVC sports flooring should not rely only on samples and quotations collected at a trade show.

FARFLY offers three visit options for international buyers travelling to China before or after the Canton Fair.

1. Book a project-assessment meeting

The meeting can be held online or in person in Wuxi.

Buyers should send:

  • Project country and city;
  • Application areas;
  • Plans or zoning information;
  • Estimated quantity;
  • Specification or tender documents;
  • Subfloor photographs;
  • Preferred product type;
  • Required delivery and installation dates.

FARFLY can prepare product recommendations, specification comparisons, available test documents and a list of technical issues requiring confirmation.

2. Request a customised PVC flooring evaluation sample package

During the buyer’s stay in China, FARFLY can prepare a project-specific sample package and arrange domestic delivery to the buyer’s hotel.

The package may include:

  • Homogeneous PVC flooring samples;
  • Commercial heterogeneous sheet samples;
  • PVC sports flooring samples;
  • Matching welding rods;
  • Structure and colour comparisons;
  • Technical data;
  • A test-report index;
  • Preliminary selection recommendations.

Compared with international air or sea shipment to the buyer’s overseas office, domestic delivery to a hotel in China is normally faster and more economical. It also allows the buyer to request replacement colours or additional samples while still in China.

The hotel’s parcel-acceptance policy should be confirmed in advance. The recipient name, telephone number, hotel name and check-in date will be required.

3. Book a FARFLY factory audit

A factory visit can cover:

  • Homogeneous, commercial and sports flooring;
  • Production lines and manufacturing processes;
  • Raw materials and quality control;
  • Finished products and ready stock;
  • Colour and batch management;
  • Sampling and customisation;
  • Test reports and technical documentation;
  • Adhesives, welding rods and tools;
  • Packaging, container loading and logistics;
  • Review of comparable projects.

Distributors, contractors, healthcare-project suppliers and sports-venue investors should normally allow half a day for the factory tour, sample review and project meeting.

Appointments can be requested through the FARFLY contact page.

If you are visiting China before or after the Canton Fair and evaluating PVC sheet flooring for a hospital, school, laboratory, commercial building or sports venue, you can book a project meeting, request a customised sample package or arrange a FARFLY factory audit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does homogeneous flooring have no surface protection?

Its main body does not contain the separate print layer and conventional transparent wear layer used in heterogeneous flooring. Modern homogeneous floors commonly receive PUR or UV surface reinforcement to improve stain, chemical and maintenance performance.

How should buyers interpret homogeneous-flooring wear thickness?

Some manufacturers report an effective wear thickness equal to the total product thickness because the homogeneous structure extends through the body. This is different from the transparent wear-layer thickness of heterogeneous flooring.

Is thicker commercial PVC flooring always better?

No. Buyers should also compare the transparent wear layer, residual indentation, dimensional stability, surface treatment and intended application.

Is thicker PVC sports flooring always more professional?

No. Total thickness is only one parameter. Shock absorption, friction, ball rebound, vertical deformation, dimensional stability and installation method also matter.

Can FARFLY deliver samples to a buyer’s hotel during the Canton Fair?

Yes, subject to the hotel’s parcel policy. Buyers should provide the hotel name, recipient name, telephone number and check-in date in advance.

Conclusion

China’s PVC sheet flooring industry benefits not only from manufacturing capacity but also from raw-material, testing, accessory, installation and export supply chains.

For hospitals, schools, laboratories, sports venues and high-specification commercial environments, the decisive questions are:

  • Is the product suitable for the exact application?
  • Do the documents match the proposed product?
  • Are the subfloor, adhesive and welding rods compatible?
  • Can the local installation team install the system correctly?
  • Who will help when project conditions change?

That is why FARFLY positions itself as a project-focused resilient flooring provider rather than only a PVC flooring manufacturer.
